Need free theaters to stage plays - Playwrights demand in Coimbatore

Coimbatore artist Kathadi Ramamurthy has said that the government should come forward to provide government-owned theaters for staging plays free of cost.


Coimbatore: Dramatists are saddened by the declining interest among children and youth in watching drama

In the Oct. program organized by the Pollachi Tamilisai Sangam, the Jugalbandi comedy play by Kathadi Ramamurthy group took place. Actor and dramatist Kathadi Ramamurthy, who participated in it, told the reporters that the number of sabhas is decreasing now.

In Chennai, there were between 160 - 170 Sabhas. Currently, it is reduced to 12 Sabhas; There is an environment where two sabhas conduct drama together. The development of drama has not slowed down. The fans who come to watch are in their 40s - 50s; Young people and children do not come. It can also be a modern development including 'TV' and mobile phone. A great play should be prepared and promoted to attract everyone, including children and youth.

Once they see a play, they get hooked and continue to watch it. Drama is the mother of all arts. It is from this that many arts have emerged. On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Iyal, Music and Drama Society, the government is providing assistance. Also, government-owned theaters can be provided for staging plays at low rent or free of charge. Through this, the art of theater will develop.“
