Ambulance Stranded Amid Traffic Jam Caused by Stuck Container Lorry in Athupalam, Coimbatore

A container lorry became stuck under a Coimbatore flyover, causing widespread traffic chaos in Meampalayam. The incident, involving a Kerala-bound vehicle, led to significant disruptions, highlighting the need for improved traffic management.

Coimbatore: A critical situation unfolded in Coimbatore as an ambulance, transporting a patient, became stranded in a massive traffic jam caused by a container lorry wedged under the Athupalam flyover. The incident occurred when a substantial container lorry, loaded with tea powder from Thudiyalur in Coimbatore and headed towards Kerala, attempted to pass through the Athupalam junction. The ongoing construction work on the flyover exacerbated the situation, with the height of the container matching that of the bridge under construction, resulting in an unexpected entanglement.

The Athupalam area, a crucial junction linking major roads, witnessed intense traffic congestion due to the lorry’s predicament. The backlog of vehicles stretched along the route to Pollachi and Palakkad, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters. Quick-thinking members of the public stepped in, organizing traffic flow and guiding ambulances through alternative routes to ensure patients reached their destinations without delay.

Subsequently, traffic police joined efforts to clear the congestion, but the incident severely impacted the community, particularly due to the heavy holiday traffic. Residents in the area expressed their frustration, emphasizing the urgent need for expedited completion of the flyover project. They highlighted the specific challenge posed by frequent passage of school and college vehicles through the area during significant events, stressing the importance of resolving the situation promptly.
