Women with Empty Pots Stage Road Blockade Near Palladam, Demanding Drinking Water Facility

The region in question is part of the 11th Om Shakthi Nagar under Palladam municipality in Tirupur district, home to over 500 families. Due to a shortage of proper road infrastructure and the severity of the water scarcity

Palladam, Tirupur District, Tamil Nadu: In response to ongoing water scarcity issues and a lack of amenities, more than 200 women, armed with empty pots, staged a road blockade along a key thoroughfare near Kanapathipalayam in Palladam. The protest lasted for four hours.

The Tirupur administration had recently implemented a temporary water supply through tanker trucks to alleviate the water crisis, but the issue persists.

The region in question is part of the 11th Om Shakthi Nagar under Palladam municipality in Tirupur district, home to over 500 families. Due to a shortage of proper road infrastructure and the severity of the water scarcity, residents have been demanding a sustainable solution for water distribution. Despite numerous petitions to the local administration, no concrete action has been taken to address the issue, prompting residents to resort to protest.

Today’s protest witnessed more than 200 women blocking the road near Tirupur-Trichy highway, demanding immediate action from the administration to ensure the consistent supply of drinking water.

Local police arrived at the scene and held discussions with the protesters, promising to address the water scarcity issue and alleviate their concerns. Following the discussions and the assurance of a resolution, the women dispersed peacefully.

This protest comes on the heels of Tirupur’s municipal head offering assurances of a sustainable water supply within four days to resolve the ongoing crisis.
