Tirupur Celebrates Maattu Pongal with Traditional Fervor

Coimbatore: On the second day of the traditional Thai Pongal festival, Tirupur witnessed a joyous celebration of Maattu Pongal, dedicated to honoring cattle. Cattle and goat owners cleaned and adorned their animals with colors and bells, showcasing their happiness. Similar to the Sun worship on Pongal day, today’s celebration involved preparing Pongal and paying tribute to the cattle. In Vijayapuram, Tirupur, families of cattle owners gathered to celebrate Maattu Pongal, showing respect and gratitude to their cattle. This festival highlights the importance of cattle in Tamil culture and agriculture.
