Coimbatore: TNAU’s Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology organised ‘Hands on Training in High throughput Analysis of Protein: MALDI TOF on January 23rd - 24th, 2024 at CPMB&B, TNAU, Coimbatore. The participants include research scholars and faculties from various colleges and research institutes from all over India attended this training programme.
In the inaugural function, Dr.S.Mohan Kumar, Professor and Project Director (CoEB), CPMB&B, TNAU welcomed the gathering and explained about importance of advanced tools for proteomic analysis and the facility can be availed by the researchers and students from TNAU and other institutes.
Dr.N.Senthil, Director (CPMB&B), in his inaugural address highlighted importance of proteomics analysis in determining the quality of protein and identification of novel proteins related to cancer diagnostics. He also stressed about the data processing in various proteomics applications.
The Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology is a Section 8 Company, it is supporting the agricultural industries/startups and people working on differential expressions studies, he added. Dr.P. Balasubramaniam, Director, Natural Resource Management in his presidential address explained about the importance of MALDI-TOF and protein analysis. He also explained about the prominent role of protein analysis in soil health and agricultural applications.
Finally, Dr.E.Kokiladevi, Professor and Head (DPB) proposed the vote of thanks. She explained about the importance of proteomics and the development of metabolomic and proteomic facility in TNAU. In continuation, Mr.D.Venkatesh from Spinco Biotech PVT Ltd., explained about the mass spectrometry, the basics of software and hardware of MALDI TOFF and loading of trypsin digested samples into MALDI TOFF instrument. The sample analysis and interpretation of results were explained and demonstrated in detail to the participants.
