TNAU inks MoU with two Assam firms

CO 5 Bajra Napier Hybrid Grass was developed by the scientists in the Department of Forage Crops, Center for Plant Breeding and Genetics, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore and released at All India Level during 2012.


Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University signed an MoU with two firms of Assam, Pranbandhu Das & Co and Rafik Ali Associates under the support of Assam Fodder Mission for large scale commercial production and marketing of “CO 5 Bajra Napier Hybrid Grass” in the presence of Dr.V.Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU on 09.02.2024.

CO 5 Bajra Napier Hybrid Grass was developed by the scientists in the Department of Forage Crops, Center for Plant Breeding and Genetics, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore and released at All India Level during 2012.



This hybrid is a boon for dairy farmers owing to its high bio mass, broader leaves, succulent stem, high crude protein content (14%), winter hardiness, quick generation capacity and yields through out the year. Dr.R.Thamizh Vendan, Registrar, signed the MoU on behalf of TNAU, Mr.Pranbandhu Das signed for Pranbandhu Das & Co and Md Rafik Ali signed for Rafik Ali Associates. Dr.R.Ravikesavan, Director, Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, Dr.S.Sundareswaran, Professor (SS&T), Directorate of Agribusiness Development and Dr.R.Pushpam, Professor and Head, Department of Forage Crops, other scientists from the Department of Forage Crops and officials from the company were also present during the signing.
