20-year-old female elephant slips due to slush, rescue operation on.

A 20-year-old female elephant was spotted lying on the ground in an injured state at the Nayyakanpalayam forest range, Periyanaickenpalayam division.

It is reported that the elephant, while trying to fetch water from the pond could have stepped in the slush and slipped off.

During wee hours of morning, the locals were alarmed as they heard loud trumpeting sounds at close quarters. They found that a herd of elephants were trying to help another elephant which was unable to stand on it's feet. The locals immediately alerted the PN Palayam forest officials.

As the injured elephant is still surrounded by a herd of elephants, the veterinary team is unable to administer treatment. The forest officials are trying hard to chase off the herd from the injured elephant for administering treatment.
