Fatal Collision Between Two Vans Near Kangayam, One Driver Dead

Late night collision between two cargo vans on the Tiruchirappalli to Coimbatore National Highway near Veeranampalayam, Kangayam, results in one fatality and multiple injuries.


Coimbatore: In a tragic accident on the Tiruchirappalli-Coimbatore National Highway near Veeranampalayam in Kangayam, two cargo vans collided head-on, resulting in the death of one driver and injuries to three others. The incident occurred around midnight when a van driven by Malaisamy, 38, from Vellakoil collided with another van driven by Subramani, 45, from Namakkal district.



According to the police, the collision was severe with both vehicles suffering significant damage. Emergency services, including the Kangayam police and fire brigade, were quick to respond to the scene. Three individuals trapped inside the wreckage were rescued after intense efforts. Sadly, Malaisamy succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. The injured, Subramani and Jaykishan, a 20-year-old labourer from North India traveling with Malaisamy, were initially taken to the Kangayam Primary Health Centre and later transferred to Erode Government Hospital for further treatment.



The Kangayam police have registered a case and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Notably, road expansion works have been ongoing on this stretch of the national highway, prompting local demands for increased traffic safety measures.
