The renowned Mariamman Temple at Udumalai celebrated its chariot festival starting from September 9 with flag hoisting today by Devangar Community Welfare Association amidst traditional rituals and a large gathering of devotees.
Tirupur: The revered Mariamman Temple in Udumalai, Tirupur district, began its annual chariot festival on September 9 with rituals including 'Poochorithal' and fasting. On the second event on September 16, a pole installation ceremony was held. Today, marked by the flag hoisting event considered a significant symbol of the festival, it was conducted under the auspices of the Devangar Community Welfare Association.

Prior to the hoisting, a ritual purification was performed, and a yellow flag adorned with the image of Goddess Mariamman was paraded through the streets. Subsequently, amidst the sounds of traditional drumbeats, the flag was hoisted at the temple's flagpole. Special worships, ceremonious 'Abhishekams' and prayers followed the hoisting, with many devotees from Udumalai and nearby regions participating and seeking blessings.
