A man has been arrested in Coimbatore for stealing 100 kg of copper wire valued at Rs. 85,000 from the Government Medical College Hospital. The thefts were captured on CCTV.
Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on theft at government facilities, a plumber working at the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital has been apprehended for stealing copper wires. Stored in the hospital's electrical storage room, these wires, frequently missing, were part of an inventory for electrical work.
Following a complaint filed recently at the Race Course Police Station, authorities initiated an investigation. The CCTV footage revealed that Jayadas (28), hailing from Palakkad, Kerala, who was employed as a plumber, was involved in the theft.
Over time, he managed to steal copper wires weighing approximately 100 kilograms, cumulatively worth around Rs. 85,000, and sold them. After his activities came to light during the investigation, the police arrested him on April 22. He was later presented in court and has since been placed in custody.
