Residents of Tirupur staged a protest at the municipal office demanding immediate commencement of road construction, halted for two months, causing detours of about 9 km.
Coimbatore: The residents of the 59th ward in Tirupur, which includes localities like Poonthottam and Vallalar Avenue, have taken to protesting outside the municipal office. Over 100 families living in these residential areas are suffering due to the stalled road works on Muthanampalayam-Vijayapuram link road, which was tendered by the municipality two months ago but has yet to begin.

The delay has forced students and working individuals to take a lengthy 9-kilometer detour daily. This has been particularly challenging as the road was prepped with gravel intended for immediate construction, which now disrupts even emergency services like ambulances. The angered public holding placards surrounded the third regional municipal office insisting that no further delays occur in road construction.
In response to the protest, municipal officials assured that they would instruct the contractor to commence the roadworks immediately. Following these assurances, the protesters dispersed, resolving the brief upheaval at the office.
