Operation of 180 TASMACs shut in Coimbatore, following Supreme Court order.

Following the orders passed by the Supreme Court to close all TASMAC shops on National/State highways by 31st March, around 3316 shops have been closed across Tamil Nadu.

In Coimbatore, 180 TASMAC shops that where functioning on the highways were closed. Since then, all other functioning liquor shops in the city have been experiencing unusual crowd and hike in sales.

Public, mostly Women have welcomed this move by the Supreme Court. However, drunkards who spent a major part of their daily wages on liquor do not bother to travel a few extra miles to purchase liquor from other TASMACs.

TASMACs on highways was stated to be one of the proven causes for road accidents as heavy truck drivers, lorry drivers and other travellers have easy access to liquor while they are behind wheels.
