Five individuals were arrested in Udumalai, Tirupur district, for selling banned substances including gutka and pan masala, following a tip-off received by the police.
Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on the sale of banned substances, the Udumalai police arrested five people involved in the illicit trade of gutka and pan masala products. Following a confidential tip, a police team led by Inspector Jeevanantham and Sub-Inspector Sampathkumar conducted a patrol in the area.
During the operation, police detained five men, identified as Kattaram Chowdhry (38), Sureshkumar (23), Dayaram (23), Shantharam (20), all from Rajasthan, and Suresh (32) from Ural Patti in Udumalai taluk. Together, they were found to be selling various narcotic products, including brands such as Ganesh, Coolip, Hans, and Vimal, totaling about 14.797 kilograms. The police subsequently registered a case, seized the narcotic substances, and arrested the accused, who are now in custody.
