TNAU has inaugurated a new Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology and signed MoAs with five start-up companies to enhance biotech research and development, aiming at creating biobased products for agricultural advancement.
Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) recently established the Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology (CoEB), focusing on research and development under public-private partnership. This initiative aims to develop advanced bio-inputs like enzymes, biobased products, and plant growth promoters that benefit the agricultural sector.
The CoEB is housed in a sprawling 1.06 lakh square feet facility in Coimbatore, designed to foster innovation and collaboration among startups, student entrepreneurs, and established companies. Equipped with state-of-the-art amenities including conference halls, a cafeteria, and advanced instrumental facilities, it provides an ideal environment for research activities.

Dr. N. Senthil, Director of CoEB and CPMB&B at TNAU, signed Memoranda of Agreement (MoA) with five pioneering startups: M/s.Oneomics Pvt Ltd, Ms. Jini Narayanan (Scientist), M/s.Bhusmar Agro Foods Industries, M/s.Maha Sakthi Natural, and M/s.Universe Food Products. The agreements, signed on May 6, 2024, allocate cabin space within CoEB for these companies to advance their research.

The signing ceremony was attended by notable academic and industry leaders, including Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, and other prominent directors and professors from various departments within the university. This collaboration highlights TNAU's commitment to enhancing agricultural biotechnology for commercial and farming advancements in India.
