Heavy Rain in Valparai Causes Traffic Disruption Due to Rockslide

Heavy rains in Valparai, Coimbatore, led to rocks rolling onto the 16th Hairpin Bend, blocking the road and disrupting traffic. Quick response by highway authorities restored flow within half an hour.

Coimbatore: Heavy rainfall struck Valparai area of Coimbatore district this afternoon, causing significant disruptions. The intense downpour triggered a rockslide at the 16th Hairpin Bend near Attakatti, leading to large rocks tumbling across the main road.

This unexpected rockslide blocked the road, preventing buses and other vehicles from passing, thereby causing traffic issues in the area. Upon receiving the news, highway department officials promptly arrived at the scene. They embarked on rapid clearance operations, breaking down and removing the rocks to clear the path.

The traffic, which was halted for over half an hour, resumed its normal flow shortly after the intervention by the highway authorities. Local authorities have advised drivers to remain cautious and follow updated traffic advisories as the area is prone to sudden natural disruptions during heavy rains.
