Coimbatore police arrested two men involved in a series of chain snatching incidents targeting women during daytime in Soolur, Kovilpalayam, and Madukkarai areas.
Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on chain-snatching incidents, Coimbatore Police have apprehended two individuals linked to multiple thefts across Soolur, Kovilpalayam, and Madukkarai. The accused, identified as Saddam Hussain from Karumbukadai and Abdul Rahim from Ondipudur, were involved in a series of six reported chain snatching incidents under the jurisdiction of the respective police stations. These incidents primarily targeted women walking alone or shopping in isolated sections during the day, under the guise of asking for directions or making purchases.
Following orders from Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badrinarayanan, a special task force pursued the criminals, leading to their arrest. From the accused, police recovered stolen goods including 18 sovereigns of gold jewelry and a two-wheeler used in committing these crimes.

The apprehended individuals have been linked to thefts totalling six cases, and the recovered items were submitted as evidence in court today (May 19), where the accused were remanded to judicial custody.
