Mettupalayam to Ooty Train Service Resumes After Temporary Suspension

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway resumed its daily service from Mettupalayam to Ooty on May 24, following a brief suspension due to landslides caused by heavy rains.

Coimbatore: The picturesque Nilgiri Mountain Railway, which operates daily from Mettupalayam at 7:10 AM, has now resumed its services to Ooty as of May 24, offering tourists both domestic and international the joy of experiencing the natural beauty of the Nilgiri mountains. The train journey, heralded for its historical significance, had been briefly halted due to landslide debris on the tracks following heavy rainfall. After essential track maintenance from May 18 to May 21, services were initially restored on May 22. However, subsequent rain-induced landslides prompted another brief interruption, announced on May 23. With the completion of repair works, the regular train schedule recommenced today, although the train departed 20 minutes behind schedule at 7:30 AM instead of the usual 7:10 AM. Throngs of tourists and daily commuters welcomed the resumption of services, marking a return to normalcy for the popular hill station route.
