In Coimbatore's Kongu Nagar, near Ramanathapuram, land initially allocated in 1972 has been recovered by the city corporation following encroachments, including public roads.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation's Central Zone, specifically the 62nd Ward near Ramanathapuram in Kongu Nagar, witnessed a significant recovery operation yesterday, May 24. Originally, an 8.49-acre plot was allocated to a cooperative housing society in 1972, consisting of 84 plots. Over time, parts of this land, including designated open spaces and public roads measuring 30 and 40 feet, were encroached upon.
The encroachments had resulted in the alteration of the area with unauthorized structures and segments used as open spaces. Authorities, led by Assistant Town Planning Officer Govinda Prabhakar, undertook swift action to reclaim the land. Enforcement officers secured the 14 cents of the public reserve by locking it down and sealing the area.
Additionally, in another part of the locality, officials cleared 25 cents out of a 70-cent public reserve, leaving it vacant and placing a city corporation information board to assert public ownership. To fully regain control of the remaining encroached land, estimated to be worth around Rs. 10 crore, Coimbatore Corporation has issued notices to the encroachers and is actively working to reclaim all misappropriated areas.
