Growing Rift in Alliance as Annamalai Assumes Tamil Nadu BJP Leadership, Alleges Thondamuthur MLA SP Velumani

Thondamuthur MLA SP Velumani addressed reporters at Coimbatore AIADMK office, remarking on increased vote percentage and asserting AIADMK's commitment to public welfare post the assumption of Tamil Nadu BJP leadership by Annamalai.

Coimbatore: During a press meet at the AIADMK office today, Thondamuthur MLA SP Velumani spoke about the party's performance and strategies post the recent parliamentary elections.

"Although AIADMK had setbacks in past elections, we have made significant recoveries. In 2019, we secured 19.3% of the votes, while this election saw an increase to 20.4%," stated Velumani. He acknowledged the people's support and highlighted various initiatives undertaken by AIADMK for public welfare.

Velumani expressed concerns that the alliance with BJP became strained following Annamalai's ascendancy in Tamil Nadu BJP. "Had BJP collaborated effectively, we could have won between 30 to 35 seats," he suggested, alluding to potential greater electoral success. Velumani accused Annamalai of not fulfilling promises made to the people of Tamil Nadu and criticized his management, which led to apparent failures despite significant media influence and financial spending. "Under Modi's leadership at the Centre, Annamalai needs to fulfill the commitments made to the Tamil people," Velumani demanded. He expressed confidence in AIADMK securing a majority in the 2026 state elections.
