Rise in Passport Applications in Coimbatore Region

Increase in passport applications observed in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, and Namakkal under the Regional Passport Office. Notably, more passports issued than last year.

Coimbatore:The Regional Passport Office in Coimbatore, serving the districts of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, and Namakkal, has experienced a significant increase in passport applications. Satish June, the Passport Officer, reported that in the past year alone, nearly 1.83 lakh people applied for passports, with 1.77 lakh successfully obtaining them. This level of passport issuance marks a record since the office was established in 2008. Comparatively, in 2022, around 1.61 lakh applications were submitted, with 1.57 lakh passport issuances.

The consistent increase in applications each year reflects a growing desire among the residents of Coimbatore and its surrounding areas to travel abroad. Notably, 30% of this year's applications came through passport service centers located in post offices in Kunnoor, Erode, Salem, and Rasipuram, highlighting their importance in regional accessibility to passport services.
