Residents Complain of Contaminated Water Supply in Mettupalayam's 21st Ward

Residents of the 21st ward in Mettupalayam report contamination in the water supply with foul smell and visible waste. Local authorities are investigating the issue.

Coimbatore: Residents of the 21st ward in Mettupalayam have lodged a complaint regarding the contamination in their water supply. Over 1500 residences in the ward, with more than 200 homes in the Kendaiyur Sambappa layout, are affected. Water is supplied alternately day by day by the municipality. Recently, households have reported water with a foul odor and foreign particles, including hair, fat, and small bone fragments.

The alarming situation has caused distress among the locals, with some experiencing nausea and gastrointestinal problems after consuming the water. Following the complaints, officials from the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, along with municipal water supply department personnel, inspected the site. During the inspection, meat waste was found near the pipeline connections, raising questions about how it ended up inside the drinking water pipes. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and are currently cleaning and restoring the water pipes to ensure safe drinking water for the ward's residents.
