The people of Samalapuram along with 'Makkal Adhikaram' organisation hosted a peaceful protest yesterday condemning the closure of Tasmac functioning in one of their residential areas. The Police discharged sudden lathi-charge against the protestors including women and brutally attacked them.
The video of AGDP Pandiarajan, Tiruppur slapping a women and chasing rest of the protestors not only created shock waves but also questioned the statement often used by the police which says 'Police are people's friend'.

Several political parties and organisations have condemned the police especially the AGDP for his inhumane behavior. Today, the members of the 'Makkal Adhikaram' hosted an unprecedented protest at the Gandipuram Bus stand condemning the Police for their attack on public for were fighting for a fair cause in a peaceful way.
They alleged that Police are working hand-in-hand with the ruling political parties in setting up new Tasmacs, since they get income from the Tasmacs through bribes. Hence, the Police are very supportive to the political establishments in setting up new Tasmacs instead of protecting the people's welfare.
They also alleged that at Samalapuram the Police arrested a few of the protestors out of which only seven people were released. And the rest of 20 people are kept in an undisclosed place in the name of investigation.
Assuring that 'Makkal Adhikaram' will continue to strive hard and intensify their protests until all Tasmacs are closed and people's welfare is established, the team members raised slogans against Tasmac and Police.
