Sholayar Dam Reaches 100 Feet, Resumes Power Generation

Sholayar Dam, part of the PAP project, began power generation after reaching 100 feet following increased inflows due to the southwest monsoon.

Coimbraoite: Sholayar Dam, a key reservoir under the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project (PAP) has resumed power generation as water levels reached 100 feet. The dam, which stands at 164 feet, had seen its water level drop to 20 feet due to insufficient rainfall in its catchment areas.

Following the onset of the southwest monsoon, the inflow into the dam increased significantly. Recent heavy rains further boosted the water levels. As the inflow continued to rise, the water level at the dam reached 100 feet on June 27.

Currently, the inflow stands at 5,705 cubic feet per second, allowing 750 cubic feet per second of water to be released to Powerhouse 1. This marks the first power generation in eight months, signaling a positive turn for the region’s power supply boosted by the monsoon rains.
