Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran IAS conducted an on-site inspection of the water channels leading to Chinnavedampatti Lake on July 10, 2024. The lake, spanning approximately 200 acres, is located in the North Zone of Coimbatore Corporation.

The primary water source for Chinnavedampatti Lake is rainwater from the Western Ghats. The rainwater flows through channels starting from Kanuvai area, passing through Thudiyalur, Vishwanatapuram, and along the Anjaneya Temple before reaching the lake. This lake plays a crucial role in recharging groundwater levels within a 25-kilometer radius, benefiting areas such as Udayampalayam, Nallampalayam, Kalapatty, Vilankurichi, Serayampalayam, Mayilampatti, Andakapalayam, Vellanapatti, Arasur, and Saravanampatty.

During the inspection, Commissioner Prabhakaran visited key water channel points including Kanuvai Dam, Kanuvai Barrier, Nanjundapuram, Veerapandi division, Chinna Thadagam, and Mangkarai Chinna Thadagam overbridge.

He inquired about the water inflow to Chinna Vedampatti Lake and discussed necessary works to improve water flow with the officials present.
The inspection team included Corporation Chief Engineer Anbazhagan, Water Resources Department Assistant Executive Engineer Amsaraj, Assistant Engineer Sivakumar, Corporation Assistant Executive Engineer Ezhil, Assistant Engineer Jainraj, Water Bodies Coordinator Sivaraja, Forest Department Ranger Madhusudanan, and Forest Guard Maniraj, among other relevant officials.
