ISKCON Chariot Festival in Coimbatore Showcases Religious Harmony

ISKCON's Jagannath Rath Yatra in Coimbatore witnessed a heartwarming display of interfaith harmony as Muslim leaders welcomed the chariot at a mosque, exchanging greetings and prasad with devotees.

Coimbatore: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Coimbatore organized a grand Jagannath Rath Yatra, coinciding with the famous chariot festival at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. The event saw an overwhelming response from devotees and showcased a beautiful example of religious harmony.

As the ornately decorated chariot carrying the deities of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra Devi, and Baldev passed through Oppanakara Street, it was warmly welcomed by the administrators of the Athar Jamath Mosque. In a touching gesture, ISKCON members offered prasad to the mosque officials, who reciprocated with equal affection. This exchange of goodwill moved onlookers and highlighted the spirit of unity in diversity.

Hundreds of devotees participated in the Rath Yatra, which began at Thermutti and proceeded through Raja Veedhi, Oppanakara Street, and Vysial Street before returning to its starting point. The air was filled with devotional fervor as participants chanted "Hare Rama Hare Krishna" while pulling the chariot. Women and young girls added to the festive atmosphere by performing the traditional Kummi dance.

The procession was conducted under tight police security. As a precautionary measure, an ambulance and a fire engine followed the chariot throughout its journey. The successful completion of the event not only celebrated the religious significance of the Jagannath Rath Yatra but also reinforced the message of communal harmony in Coimbatore.
