Orange Alert for Coimbatore, Red Alert for Nilgiris: Chennai Meteorological Center Issues Warning

Chennai Meteorological Center issues orange alert for Coimbatore and red alert for Nilgiris on July 18, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Yellow alerts issued for six other districts.

Coimbatore: The Chennai Meteorological Center has issued weather alerts for several districts in Tamil Nadu, warning of heavy rainfall on July 18. Coimbatore has been placed under an orange alert, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The Nilgiris district has been issued a red alert, the highest level of warning, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall. Some areas in the Nilgiris are expected to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today.

Additionally, yellow alerts have been issued for six other districts: Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Nellai, and Kanyakumari. These districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall on July 18.

The Meteorological Center advises residents in these areas to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions. Local authorities are expected to be on high alert to respond to any weather-related emergencies.

Residents are urged to follow updates from the Meteorological Center and local authorities, and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. The sudden increase in rainfall intensity could potentially lead to flash floods, landslides in hilly areas, and waterlogging in urban locations.
