Coimbatore: A tragic incident occurred in Kangeyam Palayam AD Colony near Sulur, where a worker lost his life due to the collapse of a house wall following continuous rainfall. The victim, identified as Sankar Ganesh, had been residing in the house for over 30 years with his wife Jothi Mani.

The incident took place on the night of July 18, when Sankar Ganesh and his wife were asleep in their house. Due to the persistent rain, one side of the weakened mud wall of their house suddenly collapsed. Sankar Ganesh was trapped under the debris and died on the spot.

Hearing the commotion, Jothi Mani woke up and attempted to rescue her husband from the rubble. With the help of neighbors, they tried to extricate Sankar Ganesh and rush him to the hospital. However, it was discovered that he had already succumbed to his injuries.

The body was sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. The Sulur Police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation into the incident. According to the police, the collapse might have occurred due to the old and dilapidated condition of the house, which was further weakened by the continuous rainfall.

This unfortunate event highlights the risks posed by old and poorly maintained structures, especially during adverse weather conditions. Local authorities may need to assess similar buildings in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
