MLA Pollachi Jayaraman Petitions for Reopening of Long-Used Railway Gate

Pollachi MLA Jayaraman submitted a petition to reopen the railway gate at Vadugapalayam, which has been used by residents for many years. The closure has caused inconvenience to about 4,000 people.

Coimbatore: Pollachi MLA Pollachi Jayaraman has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector's office, requesting the reopening of a railway gate that has been in use by the public for many years. The gate in question is located on Sellakumarar Extension Street in Vadugapalayam, Pollachi.

In his petition, Jayaraman stated, "The railway gate LC.NO:123 on Sellakumarar Extension Street in Vadugapalayam, Pollachi, has been operational for a hundred years. This was the only nearby route for residents of the area to reach Pollachi town and Coimbatore Road. Another route on Palakkad Road was closed after the construction of a flyover."

The MLA highlighted the inconvenience caused by the closure, explaining that the area has become isolated like an island. "Approximately 4,000 residents, including workers, school children, and daily wage laborers, are now forced to travel an additional four kilometers due to the gate's closure," he added.

Jayaraman also pointed out that 108 ambulances, school vehicles, and mini-buses used to utilize this route. He mentioned the presence of a government middle school near the gate, which has been functioning since 1937, as evidence of the route's long-standing importance to the community.

The petition concludes with a plea to the district administration: "On behalf of the public, I request that the railway gate LC.NO:123 be reopened to allow the general public to use this long-established route as they have been doing for over 100 years."

The reopening of this railway gate is crucial for the residents of Vadugapalayam and surrounding areas, as it would significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility for thousands of people.
