Coimbatore: In a startling case of land encroachment, it has come to light that some individuals have illegally occupied government land in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore district, constructing shops and collecting rent.

More alarmingly, a government fair price shop was rented out on this encroached land, with rent being collected from the government itself.

Following a petition submitted to the District Collector, an investigation was conducted, including a site inspection and document review. The audit confirmed the illegal occupation of government land. In response, the District Collector has ordered a thorough investigation into the encroachment and directed officials to take appropriate action.

The Collector has also instructed the officials to remove any other encroachments that may be present in the area. This incident highlights the need for stricter monitoring of government properties and swift action against illegal occupations.

The authorities are expected to conduct a detailed survey of the area to identify the full extent of the encroachment and take necessary legal steps to reclaim the government land.
