Coimbatore Corporation Reclaims Rs 3 Crore Worth Land in Ward 51

Coimbatore Corporation reclaimed a public reservation land worth Rs 3 crore in Ward 51's Krishna Nagar on August 1. The land, illegally sold in 2007, was recovered after multiple notices and complaints from a social activist.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has successfully reclaimed a valuable piece of public reservation land worth Rs 3 crore in Ward 51, Krishna Nagar. The recovery operation, conducted on August 1, marks the end of a 16-year-long encroachment issue.

Krishna Nagar, a residential area in Ward 51 under the Eastern Zone of Coimbatore Corporation, was originally developed in 1980. The layout, spread across 7 acres, was divided into 100 plots. During this division, four plots totaling 16 cents were earmarked as public reservation land.

In 2007, the public reservation land was illegally regularized and sold to another individual by the original owner. This unauthorized transaction also led to the closure of a well that existed on the property.

The issue came to light when social activist Thyagarajan filed complaints with the Corporation and Tahsildar offices in 2019. Acting on these complaints, the Corporation issued notices to the encroacher. Despite three notices, the encroacher failed to appear for direct inquiry, prompting the Corporation to decide on reclaiming the land.

Under the orders of Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran, a team led by Assistant Town Planning Officer Bhuvaneswari visited Krishna Nagar on August 1. The team initiated the reclamation process by removing iron sheets and clearing thorny bushes from the site.

Following the clearance, the team erected a board stating, "This land belongs to the Corporation and is a public reservation area." It's noteworthy that this land has been reclaimed after 40 years of encroachment.

The current market value of the recovered land is estimated at Rs 3 crore, highlighting the significance of this reclamation effort by the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation.
