Woman arrested for cheating man of Rs 2 lakh with marriage promise in Coimbatore

A 48-year-old woman from Coimbatore was arrested for defrauding a 57-year-old man from Periyakulam of Rs 2 lakh under the pretext of marriage. The accused had multiple fraud cases against her in different police stations.

Coimbatore: A 48-year-old woman named Viswadarsini from R.S. Puram West, Ponnurangam Street, Coimbatore, was arrested on August 1 for cheating a man of Rs 2 lakh under the pretext of marriage.

The victim, Muthuramalingam (57), a security guard from Periyakulam in Theni district, was looking for a second marriage after his divorce. He met Viswadarsini and they decided to get married. In 2020, Viswadarsini requested Muthuramalingam for Rs 2 lakh, claiming she needed Rs 10 lakh for her son's overseas education and had only Rs 8 lakh.

Muthuramalingam gave her the money, but Viswadarsini neither returned it nor married him. He filed a complaint at the R.S. Puram police station. During the investigation, it was revealed that Viswadarsini had a similar case registered against her at the Rayapettai Women's Police Station in Chennai in June.

Prior to these incidents, she also had a fraud case registered against her at Selvapuram police station and a threat case at Vadavalli police station. Viswadarsini, who was previously arrested and out on bail, was apprehended by the R.S. Puram police on the night of August 1 based on Muthuramalingam's complaint.
