Wings of Growth: Aviation Conclave in Coimbatore Discusses Enhancing Airport Connectivity

Aviation Conclave 'Wings of Growth' held in Coimbatore on August 3, 2024, brings together 12 airlines to discuss improving connectivity and infrastructure at Coimbatore International Airport.

Coimbatore: The 'Wings of Growth' Aviation Conclave, organized by Coimbatore NEXT, an initiative by associations and trade bodies of Western Tamil Nadu, took place on August 3, 2024, at the Codissia trade fair complex in Coimbatore. The event brought together representatives from twelve Indian and international airlines to discuss enhancing connectivity and infrastructure at Coimbatore International Airport.

The participating airlines included Indian carriers Air India, IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa, as well as international airlines such as Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, Oman Air, Royal Brunei, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, Air Asia, and Sri Lankan Airlines.

Key decisions and action points from the conclave included:

1. Utilizing Coimbatore's status as a Point of Call (POC) in the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with UAE-based airlines to enable Fly Dubai to start direct flights from Coimbatore to Dubai.

2. Pushing for Coimbatore's inclusion as the 19th airport in the BASA with ASEAN countries to facilitate more flights from South East Asian cities like Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

3. Working towards including Coimbatore as a POC for Doha and Muscat to enable direct flights to these destinations.

4. Emphasizing the need for airport expansion work to begin promptly, with both short-term and long-term perspectives, and insisting on this demand to both state and central governments.

5. Demanding increased flight services to major Indian cities such as Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and Bangalore, along with one-stop flights to Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Indore.

The conclave marks a significant step towards improving air connectivity for Coimbatore, potentially boosting tourism and business opportunities in the region.
