Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan introduced a new patrol bike at Race Course, designed to streamline patrolling. He assured peaceful Independence Day celebrations with enhanced security measures across the city.

Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan introduced a new patrol bike at Race Course area, designed to simplify patrolling duties. The bike, developed with assistance from Kumaraguru Institutions students, is part of the 'Smart Policing for Smart City' initiative.

"This patrol bike is being introduced in the Race Course area initially. Based on its effectiveness, we plan to introduce six such bikes in Smart City areas including Valangulam, Ukkadam, RS Puram, and Kurichi," said Balakrishnan. He added that the bike is equipped with a Public Address System, Flashlight, and GPS, making it a smart vehicle that will benefit both the public and the police force.

Regarding Independence Day security measures, Balakrishnan stated, "Checkpoints have been set up at city borders, and vehicle inspections are being conducted. Special teams have been formed to inspect marriage halls and lodges. Security arrangements at VOC Grounds, where the parade will take place, have been in place since yesterday. A total of 2,500 police personnel have been deployed for security duties."

The Commissioner assured that Independence Day celebrations in Coimbatore would proceed peacefully without any issues. He mentioned that suspicious individuals at railway stations, bus stands, and other public places are being thoroughly checked.

Balakrishnan also spoke about the effectiveness of patrol auto-rickshaws introduced earlier for patrolling smaller streets and providing medical assistance to accident victims. He emphasized that the new patrol bike, costing around 50,000 rupees, will be used for round-the-clock patrolling, complementing the existing 'May I Help You' booth at Race Course.

The Police Commissioner expressed confidence in the smart policing initiatives, stating that they will continue to expand such measures based on their effectiveness in enhancing public safety and police efficiency in Coimbatore.
