Annual Sacred Thread Ceremony Held in Malumichampatti, Coimbatore

The 12th annual Poonool (sacred thread) changing ceremony was conducted by the Coimbatore South District Vishwakarma Community Welfare Association at Sakthi Vinayagar Temple in Coimbatore on August 19.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore South District Vishwakarma Community Welfare Association organized its 12th annual Poonool (sacred thread) changing ceremony on August 19. The event, coinciding with Aavani Avittam, took place at the Sakthi Vinayagar Temple in Maachampalayam Thirunagar, Coimbatore.

Sri Sri Sivashanmuga Babuji Swamigal, the Peetadhipathi of Sri Nagasakti Amman Peedam in Malumichampatti, inaugurated the ceremony. The event saw over 500 participants receiving their sacred threads while chanting the Gayatri Mantra.

The Poonool ceremony, also known as Upanayanam, is a significant rite of passage in Hindu tradition, particularly for male members of certain communities. It symbolizes the beginning of formal education and spiritual learning.

This annual event by the Vishwakarma Community Welfare Association not only preserves cultural traditions but also fosters community bonding. The large turnout highlights the importance of such ceremonies in maintaining cultural identity and passing on traditions to younger generations.

Local community leaders and members of the Vishwakarma community attended the event, making it a grand celebration of their heritage and customs.
