Air Intelligence Unit officials at Coimbatore Airport seized ganja worth ₹1 crore smuggled from Bangkok. The contraband was cleverly concealed in cornflakes packets. A passenger was arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.


Coimbatore: In a major drug bust, Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials at Coimbatore International Airport seized ganja worth ₹1 crore that was smuggled from Bangkok. The contraband was cleverly concealed in cornflakes packets, and a passenger was arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.

The AIU officials received a tip-off about a passenger smuggling ganja on a flight from Singapore to Coimbatore. Acting on this information, they conducted thorough checks on passengers arriving from Singapore on August 19.



During the inspection, officials found 2 kilograms and 2 grams of ganja hidden inside cornflakes packets in one passenger's possession.



The seized ganja is estimated to have a street value of ₹1.01 crore. The AIU officials immediately confiscated the contraband and arrested the passenger. Further investigations are underway to uncover more details about the smuggling operation and potential links to larger drug networks.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by airport authorities in combating drug trafficking and the innovative methods employed by smugglers to evade detection. The successful seizure underscores the importance of intelligence-based operations and vigilant security measures at international airports.
