Sri Maha Swarna Varahiyamman Temple Celebrates Third Annual Festival with Community Feast

The Sri Maha Swarna Varahiyamman Temple in Mathipalayam, Coimbatore, celebrated its third annual festival with rituals and a community feast for over 1000 devotees, showcasing religious harmony and social unity.


Coimbatore: The Sri Maha Swarna Varahiyamman Temple in Mathipalayam, Coimbatore, celebrated its third annual festival with great fervor and devotion. The three-day event featured various rituals and cultural programs, culminating in a grand community feast that served over 1000 devotees.

The festival included special rituals such as Ganapati Homam, Paal Kudam procession, and special abhishekams for the deity. Cultural events like Kummi dance performances added to the festive atmosphere. The highlight of the celebration was the community feast, which served a variety of vegetarian dishes to devotees, regardless of their caste or religious background.



Arokiya John, the Coimbatore North District Minority Welfare Wing President, organized the community feast following the advice of District Secretary Thondamuthur Ravi. The feast menu included rice, sambar, mixed vegetable poriyal, kulambu, rasam, vegetable kootu, appalam, vada, and wheat payasam, all served on banana leaves in the traditional manner.

The community feast was inaugurated by women panchayat presidents, including Kamalam Ravi of Thondamuthur Panchayat and Mahalakshmi of Thenkarai Panchayat. They were joined by the Deputy President and Urban Party Secretary Ramachandran in serving the food to the devotees.



In addition to the main feast, Arokiya John also provided breakfast and evening snacks to the devotees and temple administrators who were involved in the temple services throughout the four-day celebration.

The Sri Maha Swarna Varahiyamman Temple is home to several deities, including Vinayagar, Patanjali Munivar, Ellai Jakkamma, Rahu, Ketu, Sapta Kannimar, Tadikkarapothi, Shiva, Nandishwara, Unnamalai Amman, Agasthiyar, Murugan, Singa Vahana Peedam, Swarna Kalabhairavar, Pechiyamman, Mayanakali, and Sudalaimadan. Special pujas are conducted for each of these deities during the festival.



The temple also conducts regular special pujas on auspicious days, including Swarna Kalabhairavar puja on Ashtami days, Rahu-Ketu transition pujas, Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations, and rituals on new moon days. These events often conclude with annadanam (offering of food) to the devotees, reinforcing the temple's commitment to community service and spiritual well-being.
