10 Overloaded Lorries Seized, Fined Rs 8 Lakh in Pollachi

Pollachi Regional Transport Officials seized 10 lorries carrying excess load from local quarries to Kerala. The operation resulted in fines totaling Rs 8 lakh for violating weight regulations.



Coimbatore: In a crackdown on overloaded vehicles, Pollachi Regional Transport Officials have seized 10 lorries and imposed fines totaling Rs 8 lakh. The action was taken against trucks carrying stones from quarries in Pollachi and Kinathukadavu areas to Kerala, exceeding the government-mandated weight limits.

Acting on information about the illegal transport of excess stones through Gopalapuram and Valanthaiyamaram checkpoints and alternative routes, officials conducted a special vehicle inspection. The operation was carried out under the orders of Joint Transport Commissioner Sivakumaran.



During the night-time inspection, officials discovered 10 lorries carrying stones to Kerala, each loaded with 20 tons of cargo, far exceeding the permitted limit. The overloaded vehicles were not only violating weight regulations but also causing disturbance to the public during night hours.

The seized lorries were sent to the Pollachi Regional Transport Office. Regional Transport Officials stated that a fine of Rs 8 lakh has been imposed on the 10 seized lorries. They also announced that continuous monitoring would be carried out at checkpoints and alternative routes to prevent such violations in the future.

This action aims to curb the practice of illegal overloading, which not only damages roads but also poses safety risks to other road users. The transport department's swift action serves as a warning to those attempting to flout regulations for financial gain.
