Coimbatore: A Tamil teacher at Lathangi Matriculation School near Pollachi has been arrested for assaulting a 12th-grade student who modified a Purananooru verse during class. The incident occurred on May 3rd at the school located on the Pollachi-Palladam Road.

According to reports, Tamil teacher Sureshkumar was conducting a class for 12th-grade students when he instructed them to write a verse from Purananooru, an ancient Tamil poetic work. A 17-year-old student in the class allegedly modified the verse while writing it. Enraged by this, Sureshkumar reportedly slapped the student on the cheek, punched him in the stomach, and beat him on the back with an exam writing pad.

Unable to bear the pain, the student sought first aid treatment at the Pollachi Government Hospital. Following the incident, the affected student filed a complaint at the Pollachi Mahalingapuram Police Station. Based on the complaint, the police arrested Sureshkumar, the Tamil teacher from the private school.
