Pet Dog Mauled to Death by Stray Dogs in Mettupalayam; Owner Performs Last Rites

In Mettupalayam, a pet dog was fatally attacked by stray dogs. The owner, Arulvel, performed last rites for his beloved pet, highlighting the bond between humans and animals.

Coimbatore: In a heart-wrenching incident in Mettupalayam, a pet dog was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs, prompting its owner to perform full-fledged last rites, showcasing the deep bond between humans and their animal companions.

Arulvel, a vegetable vendor residing behind the Government School in Mani Nagar, Mettupalayam, had been raising a male dog named Shadow for the past six years. The dog, of the Dachshund breed, was considered a cherished member of Arulvel's family, which includes his wife, son, and daughter.

On the fateful day, Shadow ventured outside the house and was reportedly chased and attacked by stray dogs on the street. Sustaining severe injuries, Shadow was rushed to a private veterinary clinic by Arulvel. The veterinarians, after examination, informed that the dog's body had been infected with poison, and its organs had begun to fail, making recovery extremely difficult.

Despite Arulvel's best efforts and financial expenditure, Shadow could not be saved. The dog tragically passed away shortly after being brought back home.

Devastated by the loss, Arulvel and his family decided to honor Shadow's memory with a proper farewell.

In a touching gesture, Arulvel performed traditional last rites for Shadow, similar to those conducted for human family members.

The family, unable to contain their grief, wept inconsolably, moving onlookers to tears.

They kept vigil through the night with lamps lit in Shadow's honor.

The following morning, Shadow's body was taken in a procession in Arulvel's vehicle to the Govindam Pillai crematorium, where it was respectfully laid to rest.

This act of love and respect for a pet has touched many hearts in the community.

This incident has also brought attention to the increasing menace of stray dogs in the Mettupalayam area. Residents are now calling upon the municipal administration to take appropriate measures to control the stray dog population and prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
