Mettupalayam Municipality to resume regular water supply from September 21 after completing maintenance works at Samanna Water Treatment Plant and repairing pipeline leaks across the city.
Coimbatore: The Mettupalayam Municipality is set to resume regular water supply from tomorrow (September 21) after a three-day interruption due to maintenance works, announced Municipal Commissioner Amudha.
The municipality, which comprises 33 wards, draws 1.2 crore liters of water daily from three water schemes in the Bhavani River. This water is purified at the treatment plant in Samanna Pumping Station before distribution.
The municipal administration had earlier announced a three-day water supply suspension from September 18 to 20 due to maintenance works at the three water schemes in Samanna Main Pumping Station.
In a statement released on September 19, Commissioner Amudha said, "The treatment plant has accumulated a significant amount of sludge, which is currently being removed. Simultaneously, we are intensively working on replacing damaged water pipes and repairing leaks across the city."
She assured that all maintenance works would be completed by today (September 20). "From tomorrow (September 21), the public will receive water supply as usual in a regularized manner," the Commissioner stated.
The resumption of water supply comes as a relief to the residents of Mettupalayam, who have been managing with stored water for the past three days. The maintenance works are expected to improve the efficiency of the water distribution system and ensure a more reliable supply in the future.
