Flying Squad Seizes Rs 8.18 Crore Cash and Gold in Coimbatore District Raids

Flying Squad and Income Tax officials seized Rs 8.18 crore worth of cash and gold during intensive raids across 10 assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district over 24 hours ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with major recoveries in Pollachi and other areas.


Coimbatore: In a major crackdown ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Flying Squad and Income Tax Department have seized Rs 8.18 crore worth of cash, gold, and other valuables during intensive raids conducted across Coimbatore district over the past two days.

The seizures were made during a 24-hour operation that commenced on Monday morning at 6 am and continued until Tuesday morning 6 am. The Flying Squad and Static Surveillance Teams conducted thorough inspections across all 10 assembly constituencies in the district, recovering a total of Rs 8,18,66,293 worth of cash, gold, and other items.

According to official sources, the Flying Squad and Income Tax Department officials recovered Rs 3.30 crore in cash and 3,683.75 grams of gold and silver items valued at Rs 4.40 crore during their coordinated raids. The operations were part of the heightened vigilance measures implemented to ensure free and fair elections in the district.

Pollachi constituency recorded the highest seizure with Rs 36.16 lakh being confiscated. This was followed by Kinathukadavu where Rs 4.41 lakh was recovered, and Valparai where officials seized Rs 3.50 lakh. In Coimbatore North constituency, Rs 2.02 lakh was confiscated, while Singanallur saw seizures amounting to Rs 1.72 lakh.

The intensive search operations are being conducted as part of the comprehensive election monitoring mechanism put in place by the Election Commission. Both the Flying Squad teams and Static Surveillance Groups have been actively patrolling the district to prevent the distribution of cash and gifts to influence voters during the election period.

Election officials stated that the raids would continue across all constituencies until the completion of the electoral process to ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct and maintain the integrity of the democratic process.
