Stone-Pelting Incidents on Trains in Coimbatore: RPF Intensifies Trackside Surveillance

Following a series of stone-pelting incidents on trains in Coimbatore, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified surveillance along railway tracks. Action has been taken against seven juveniles in connection with the incidents.

Coimbatore: Under the Salem Railway Division, around 93 railway stations including Coimbatore, North Coimbatore, Podanur, and Tiruppur come under operation. In recent months, incidents of stone-pelting have been repeatedly reported along railway stretches between Irugur–Podanur, Coimbatore–North Coimbatore, and Singanallur.

This year, three separate incidents were reported near Ondipudur and behind Brookefields, where stones were allegedly hurled at trains. The windshield of the Vande Bharat Express and locomotive headlights were damaged, while a goods train was also targeted.

Railway authorities stated that action has been initiated against seven juveniles involved in the incidents, and they were later sent to a juvenile home following court orders.

Officials said stone-pelting at trains poses a serious threat to passenger safety and railway security. As a result, the RPF has intensified patrols and surveillance along vulnerable railway stretches.

Authorities also warned that parents and guardians could be held responsible for negligence or encouraging such acts. Complaints related to stone-pelting incidents can be reported through the railway helpline number 139, officials added.
