3 Kg Ganja, Prescription tablets, Ganja Chocolate Seized in Coimbatore; Three Arrested

The Coimbatore District Police arrested three persons in separate anti-narcotics operations, seizing 3 kg of ganja, 100 prescription tablets and 1.1 kg of ganja chocolate allegedly meant for illegal sale.

Coimbatore: Continuing its sustained crackdown on narcotics under the “Drug-Free Coimbatore” initiative, the Coimbatore District Police arrested three persons in separate operations and seized approximately 3 kg of ganja, 100 prescription tablets, and 1.1 kg of ganja-infused chocolate that were allegedly meant for illegal sale.

According to the police, acting on specific intelligence, the Sirumugai Police conducted a vehicle check near Vellikuppampalayam on July 28 and intercepted two individuals allegedly transporting narcotic substances for illegal distribution.

The accused were identified as Sheik Thavuth (24) and Sanja (22). During the operation, police seized around 3 kg of ganja and 100 Laborate tablets, which the duo was allegedly possessing without a valid medical prescription.

In a separate operation, based on credible information, personnel from the Madukkarai Police Station carried out a vehicle check near the Quarry Office in Madukkarai and arrested Gouranga Patra (32), a native of Balasore district in Odisha who is employed at a roofing sheet manufacturing unit in Chinnavedampatti.

Police recovered approximately 1.1 kg of ganja-infused chocolate from his possession.

All three accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

The Coimbatore District Police have urged the public to assist in the fight against narcotics by sharing information on drug trafficking and other criminal activities through the department’s confidential “Nizhal” QR code-based reporting platform. Information can also be shared by contacting the Police Control Room at 94981 81212 or via WhatsApp at 77081 00100. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
