Aliyar, Parambikulam, Sholayar Dams See Significant Water Level Increase

Water levels in Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Solayar dams in Coimbatore district have increased significantly due to continuous southwest monsoon rainfall. Water Resources Department officials reported the rising water levels across all three dams as of August 3, bringing relief to farmers.


Coimbatore: Water levels in Coimbatore district dams have risen considerably due to continuous southwest monsoon rainfall. Water Resources Department officials reported that inflow to Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Solayar dams has been steadily increasing as of August 3.

The Aliyar dam near Anaimalai has a full capacity of 120 feet. Rainfall in the dam's catchment areas has resulted in the water level reaching 54.7 feet as of August 3. The dam is currently recording an inflow of 195 cubic feet per second, while 250 cubic feet per second is being released from the dam.

The Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a full capacity of 72 feet. Due to continuous southwest monsoon rainfall in the catchment areas, the water level has risen to 29 feet as of August 3. The dam is recording an inflow of 1,733 cubic feet per second, with 60 cubic feet per second being released.

The Solayar dam near Valparai has a full capacity of 160 feet. Rainfall in the catchment areas has brought the water level to 92.24 feet as of August 3. The dam is recording a maximum inflow of 3,507 cubic feet per second, while 1,153 cubic feet per second is being released, according to Water Resources Department officials.

The steady southwest monsoon rainfall has resulted in the gradual rise of water levels in district dams, bringing relief to farmers. Water Resources Department officials are continuously monitoring the water levels in all dams.
