Sri Ramakrishna College for Women signed an MoU with UYIR NGO in Coimbatore on August 20, 2026, to strengthen road safety awareness activities. The collaboration aims to enhance student participation and create safer roads through structured educational initiatives.
Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna College for Women (SRCW) has formalized its partnership with UYIR, a non-governmental organization specializing in road safety initiatives, through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on August 20, 2026. The collaboration aims to strengthen road safety awareness generation and related activities among students and the wider campus community.
The MoU was signed by Chitra, Principal of SRCW, and Captain R. Satish, Mentor – Education Vertical at UYIR and Head – Administration at LMW. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Praveen, DGM – Administration & Hospitality at LMW, along with faculty members and students of the college.
SRCW has been an active participant in UYIR's road safety initiatives, with an established UYIR Road Safety Club already functioning on campus. Students have been actively promoting responsible road-user behaviour and creating awareness about road safety within the college community. The newly signed MoU provides a structured framework to further strengthen and expand these ongoing activities, with enhanced student and faculty participation in sustained road safety awareness programmes.
Addressing the gathering, Captain R. Satish highlighted the preventable nature of road accident fatalities. He revealed that approximately 300 lives were lost in Coimbatore due to road accidents during the first half of 2026, with a significant number of victims being innocent pedestrians. He stressed the importance of conscious and responsible road usage among students.
Captain Satish encouraged students to deepen their understanding of road safety principles and urged them to stand firm on these principles while educating their families, friends and social circles about responsible road-user behaviour. He emphasized that road safety awareness can create meaningful societal impact only when practiced at home first. He called upon students to become responsible road safety ambassadors and actively contribute toward creating safer roads and communities.
Following the address, a comprehensive road safety awareness session was conducted for the students. A resource person from UYIR handled the session, sensitizing students on responsible road usage, pedestrian safety, traffic rules and the importance of adopting safe practices in daily life.
The collaboration between SRCW and UYIR is expected to provide greater opportunities for students and faculty members to participate in awareness programmes and contribute to building a stronger culture of road safety in Coimbatore. The structured partnership will enable the college to expand its road safety initiatives and create a more significant impact in promoting safer road practices among the student community and beyond.
