Coimbatore Corporation conducted a special vaccination camp in West and East zones where 700 street dogs were vaccinated against rabies. The civic body is intensifying efforts to achieve Zero Rabies status by 2030 through integrated health measures.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation is intensifying anti-rabies measures for street dogs across the city. In a special vaccination camp held today (22.08.2026) in the West and East zones, approximately 700 street dogs were administered Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV), according to corporation officials.

The Coimbatore Corporation area is estimated to have a total of 1,11,074 street dogs. During the current month, around 8,000 street dogs have already been vaccinated against rabies. To further intensify the vaccination drive, special camps are being continuously organized across various parts of the city.
Today's vaccination camp covered wards 36, 37, and 38 in the West zone, and wards 8 and 54 in the East zone, where approximately 700 street dogs received rabies vaccination. Through this initiative, the corporation is strengthening rabies prevention measures by vaccinating the maximum number of street dogs.
Additionally, the corporation is implementing an integrated "One Health" approach by combining anti-rabies measures with Animal Birth Control (ABC), continuous vaccination programs, and public awareness campaigns.
With the goal of achieving Zero Rabies by 2030, Coimbatore Corporation continues to undertake intensive measures, officials stated.
