90 Kg of Banned Tobacco Products Worth ₹1 Lakh Seized in Coimbatore; Two Arrested

Coimbatore City Police seized around 90 kg of banned tobacco products worth ₹1 lakh during separate raids in the city and arrested two persons. Manikandan (43), from Sivaganga district, and Madhavan (22), a native of Pudukkottai, were arrested in connection with the seizures.

Coimbatore: Police have seized around 90 kg of banned tobacco products worth ₹1 lakh during separate raids conducted in Coimbatore and arrested two persons.

Acting on a tip-off about the sale of banned tobacco products, police conducted searches at different locations in the city.

A police team led by Race Course Sub-Inspector Ajay Sharma conducted a search at a petty shop in the P.N. Palayam area. During the search, police seized 71 kg of Hans, 12.5 kg of Vimal, 5 kg of Cool Lip and 1.5 kg of tobacco that had allegedly been stocked at the shop. Manikandan (43), a native of Sivaganga, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

In another operation, Inspector Muthulakshmi conducted a search near the Karumbukkadai–Puthuvikki Road junction. Police found Madhavan (22), a native of Pudukkottai, allegedly keeping 100 packets (2 kg) of Hans tobacco for sale. The tobacco products were seized and Madhavan was arrested.

Police said further action would be taken in connection with the seizures.
