Coimbatore Corporation Vaccinates Over 800 Stray Dogs Against Rabies in a Single Day

Over 800 stray dogs were vaccinated against rabies in a single day on 12.09.2026 by the Coimbatore Corporation, as part of an intensified Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) drive covering Wards 5, 53 and 87, including Peelamedu, Kalapatti and Kuniyamuthur and surrounding areas. The drive was carried out through the coordinated efforts of veterinary officers, veterinary trainee students, field workers, animal welfare NGO volunteers and dog-catching teams. The Corporation aims to extend full vaccination coverage to the city's stray dog population and has appealed to the public to cooperate with vaccination teams to make Coimbatore a rabies-free city.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation has intensified its Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) drive across city limits, vaccinating over 800 stray dogs in a single day.



As part of continuing measures to prevent rabid dog bites and safeguard public health across areas under the Coimbatore Corporation, the civic body intensified the ARV programme for stray dogs in areas under Ward Nos. 5, 53 and 87, covering Peelamedu, Kalapatti and Kuniyamuthur and various surrounding localities.

Through the coordinated efforts of Coimbatore Corporation veterinary officers, veterinary trainee students, field staff, volunteers from animal welfare NGOs, dog-catching teams and other support workers, around 800 stray dogs were vaccinated in a single day on 12.09.2026. This has significantly strengthened both the rabies prevention measures and the vaccination coverage area in the concerned localities.

With the aim of achieving complete vaccination coverage for the stray dog population across areas under the Coimbatore Corporation, the ARV programme has been intensified in all zones. The Corporation has also appealed to the public to extend cooperation to vaccination teams and support the joint efforts to make the Coimbatore Corporation a rabies-free city.
