100-year old tree falls, traffic struck for four hours on Ooty road

Today in the wee hours of morning, a 100-year old tamarind tree collapsed on the Mettupalayam-Ooty road, near TAN India factory. 

The incident left the vehicles stranded in the hairpin bends for more than four hours. The Fire service department were on their toes to clear the debris of the uprooted tree. The electricity lines have been damaged due to the collapse, hence the adjoining areas are experiencing a power cut. The weekend tourists traffic along with the regular commuters were struck in the traffic from the hairpin bends till Mettupalayam.
