Today morning, two people were detained by the police patrol for smuggling sandalwood at the Nilambur - Madukkarai bye pass road.
Kumar (29) from Navakkarai area and Yuvaraj (25) from Vijayamangalam were travelling in their two-wheeler near Kanjikonampalayam Village. On seeing the police patrol, they tried to turn their vehicle and escape from their sight. Their suspicious activity, alerted the police, who chased them and finally caught them with the help of the locals. On inquiry, they found that the offenders were in possession of 15 kgs of sandalwood, wrapped in a cloth.
The offenders and the seized sandalwood was handed over to the Chettipalayam Police Station. The seized sandalwood and the vehicle used to smuggle would be handed over to the Forest Department for further inquiry.
